An Animal Welfare and Ethical Review body (AWERB) is mandated by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and supports Animal Welfare, Science Quality and Public Confidence in research involving protected animals.
Newcastle University executive board requires that all research carried out by staff or students is approved by the AWERB, irrespective of where it takes place or whether it requires regulatory approval or not.
Courses
The courses below support the activities of the AWERB and provide an introduction to legislation, ethics and the severity assessment framework. It is recommended that all members of NU AWERB complete these courses.
