This module introduces the Code of Practice (CoP) for the care and accommodation of animals used in science. What it is, where it comes from, and why it is relevant to every person working in a UK licensed animal unit.

• Describe the key areas the CoP covers and who it applies to.
• Explain the relationship between the CoP and the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA).
• Understand the legal weight of the CoP and the consequences of non-compliance.
• Identify the key named roles with CoP responsibilities within a licensed establishment.
• Recognise how the CoP applies across both academic and commercial animal unit settings.
