Introduction
This workshop will take place on 11–13 May (focusing on anaesthesia of rodents and rabbits). It will be delivered through a combination of pre-recorded webinars, live webinars, and e-learning modules. The programme will cover refinements and best practices in anaesthesia and analgesia for rodents and rabbits.
The workshop will be hosted on the Research Animal Training website.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is designed for animal technicians, veterinarians, researchers, and others who wish to deepen their understanding of the topic and apply refinements to their protocols.
Participants will have access to eight e-learning modules tailored for those with limited prior experience, along with seven hours of pre-recorded seminars.
This preparation allows the live sessions to focus primarily on problem-based learning, progressing from simple to more complex protocols. For each practical challenge, we will work together to identify refinements that enhance both scientific outcomes and the welfare of the animals involved.
What to Expect
- All participants will have access to pre-recorded seminars and a series of e-learning modules.
- To support flexible scheduling, the pre-recorded seminars are divided into shorter 15–30 minute video segments that can be viewed independently.
- The e-learning modules, aligned with EU21 learning outcomes, are organised into individual lessons, allowing participants to pause and resume at their convenience.
- Live sessions will be held at 13:30–15:30 (UK time).
Content
- Over 7 hours of pre-recorded seminars.
- 8 e-learning modules.
- 3 × 2-hour live, problem-based sessions on rodents.
- Supplementary reading and reference materials.
- All pre-recorded content is available in advance, and participants are encouraged to review it before the live sessions.
- Participants can access all content for 3 months after its release.
- Workshop registration also includes access to all other training materials on the Research Animal Training (RAT) website.
Interactivity
- Pre-recorded seminars and e-learning modules will be available on www.researchanimaltraining.com, while live sessions will be conducted via the Teams webinar platform.
- Interactive elements will be supported using Mentimeter (mentimeter.com).
- While not required, participants may find it helpful to have a smartphone or tablet in addition to a laptop for the interactive sessions.
Workshop Programme
13:30–15:30: Interactive sessions – Managing anaesthesia of laboratory rodents
- Scenario-based exercises will encourage participants to apply their knowledge of rodent anaesthesia to solve practical problems.
- Sessions will also include time for general discussion and Q&A.
