Why communication matters: previewing a new module for PIL holders
I’m excited to share a preview of our upcoming online course, Understanding Your PIL Standard Conditions, set to launch later this year.
The Understanding Your PIL Standard Conditions course is being developed by the Training and Competency team in the Comparative Biology Centre at Newcastle University and will serve as an essential resource for both new and existing personal licence holders, providing clarity and guidance on how to fulfill the standard conditions associated with their licences.
This short introductory module, which should take around 15 minutes to complete, focuses on communication and culture of care as a foundation for good practice in animal research. It considers daily communication, shared responsibility, and how a supportive culture of care underpins animal welfare, staff wellbeing, and high-quality research.
To reflect different regulatory contexts, two versions of this preview module are available (no account required):
Good Practice: Communication and Culture of Care
- Non-UK, best-practice focused
- Preview this module
PIL Standard Conditions: Communication and Culture of Care
- UK-specific, aligned with Personal Licence responsibilities under A(SP)A
- Addresses PIL Standard Conditions 2 and 14
- Preview this module
You are welcome to explore these modules if you wish. Feedback is very welcome at support@researchanimaltraining.com and will help shape the final course before release.
