Workshop: Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care of Laboratory Animals – May 2025

May 12 - May 15

Introduction

The workshop will take place in May 2025, featuring pre-recorded and live webinars, along with e-learning modules. The new format for the workshop will provide information on refinement and best practice for rodent anaesthesia and anaesthesia of rabbits, pigs, sheep and non-human primates.

During the first 3 days, under the guidance of workshop leader Prof. Paul Flecknell, the focus will be on small rodents.

On day 4, Prof. Eddie Clutton and Prof. Paul Flecknell will co-present the sessions.

The workshop will be hosted on the Research Animal Training website and is designed for animal technicians, veterinarians, researchers, and anyone else eager to deepen their knowledge on the subject and enhance their existing protocols with innovative refinements.

Topics Covered

Days 1-3

14:00 – 16:30: Interactive Sessions: Managing Anaesthesia in Laboratory Rodents.

    • These sessions will employ a scenario-based approach to inspire participants to leverage their knowledge and understanding of anaesthesia to tackle various challenges.
    • There will be opportunity for open discussion and a Q&A session.

Day 4

9.00 – 13.00: Live webinars: “What you need to know if you anaesthetise rabbits, pigs, sheep or primates.”

14:00 – 16:30: Interactive Sessions: Mastering Anaesthesia for Larger Species

    • Join us for engaging sessions that utilise a scenario-based approach, designed to challenge participants to effectively apply their knowledge of Anaesthesia in solving various problems.
    • Our focus will primarily be on the use and interpretation of data from monitoring devices.
